Accessible Smile With Listerine

Ever since I became an iPhone user in 2010, I have been intrigued with all of the different apps that are available. Whatever you want, there are hundreds of apps to meet your needs. However, as I have mentioned in a previous post, not all of these apps are accessible, but that is changing. Apps create a world of opportunity for those with disabilities, enabling them to have equal access to information, entertainment, and now, thanks to Listerine, a smile.
Known for their captivating marketing campaigns and effective products, Listerine is a trusted name that has made it’s way into millions of households, including mine. The company seeks to promote healthy oral habits, thus helping people create and maintain a great smile. It is a known fact that a smile is one of the first things that a person notices about another; very defining. But, what if you can’t see your smile, less known others? This is the reality for blind people, and Listerine seeks to change that, to some degree.
Instead of seeing a smile, a blind individual can feel it. Wearing their smart device around their neck, the new Listerine app with facial recognition software, let’s someone know through vibration when a person is smiling at them. Many people who have tried out the app in Europe believe that it is rewarding to have access to visual information, that they would otherwise have missed out on if they didn’t have the app. With that said, Listerine is opening new doors for blind individuals, thus their efforts were praised by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB). The Listerine Smile Detector App is available on iOs and Android devices. If you would like to listen to some stories from users of this app, please check out the YouTube video at
